More like 4.5 stars which I suppose should be rounded up the five so let's make it a 4.3...great, true to size fit and did a 6.6 mile hike wearing these right out of the box without a single rub, blister, or sore spot. I have VERY sensitive feet and toes and even legs due to medical issues so I am impressed with the overall performance of this shoe. I am used to wearing a very cushioned running shoe (neutral pronation) and although these are stiffer, still no pains. The grip was phenomenal from the gravel covered asphalt at the trail head, to the crumbling sandstone along the rocky trail. However, I ended up having to wade through three knee deep, fairly strong current creek crossings. The grip was amazing and my feet were very well protected. At 5'2" and 110 lbs. I was more surefooted than almost everyone around me despite the strength and height of the water. The downside, these were not the right shoe to be wearing on this particular day because of these very unexpected wet spots that were encountered. I live in Southern California where we have been in a drought for more than a decade so water on trails is not something I expected therefore, if I were making my purchase again, I would steer toward a shoe that would provide coverage for as many possible hiking scenarios that could occur (such as a water shoe) instead. Nothing is perfect, I get that but had I not thought that I would never be submerging my feet, I would have been just that much more comfortable overall. I hope that they dry out well, as they still at least look pretty new. And, even compared to others in my group who were wearing either a fashion sneaker or running shoe, I was not pouring water literally a small puddles of water out like they were since these do have a nice toe cap and fit very snug but not in a constrictive manner all around the top of the shoe/ankle, therefore, the water although it did penetrate, did not just pour in either. Also, my soggy-ish toes and feet are very clean...I want to say like three specks of sand on each foot and that could have even come from the outside of the shoe or my pants when I removed the shoe coming in the door at home so they definitely keep your feet clean but not dry (nor do they claim to do so...this was my mistake, not the shoe). Well made, comfortable, great gripping, pretty good looking hiker but given the knowledge I have now, go with something that is going to drain that water out fast, even if you think you're not going to need it, as clearly, you just never know! These are great shoes - EXCEPT, as other reviewers have posted, they rub on the ankle (for me, only 1 foot). It's taken me a while to break them in, as the first few walks, I did get a blister. However, with some stretching, they now fit for fine. I don't mind having to go to a little extra effort for a good price and a good brand, but some people would be put off by this. They are nice and cool when they need to be, have great traction over all sorts of terrain and repel water well. They fit really snug, but not "short", if that makes sense. Just be aware of the rubbing issue, though you may be luckier than I.I wouldn't call myself an "avid" hiker, but I've taken these shoes on quite a few hiking trips around the US, and I have never had any cause for complaint. I've hiked for hours and never developed a single blister. I'm a 7.5, and the shoes fit snugly, but not uncomfortably tight. And they look pretty cute, for a hiking shoe.I bought these half size up like I do with my running shoes. I am so glad that I tested these out before my 8 mile hike at red rock canyon because the insole was so thin and unsupportive. During a walk, I thought they were okay then after a few miles my feet and lower back were killing me. I bought some new insoles {dr scholls massaging gel type) wore with 2 pairs of good hiking socks. After 8 miles up steep, rocky, water and ice/snow terrain, My feet were dry and I did not have any blisters or sore places on my feet. I can't give these more stars since I had to buy something to make them not hard as a rock. These shoes could probably go all day depending on the terrain you're dealing with. I wore these to Lost Lake (Colorado) which was about a 7 mile hike... pretty easy but a bit rocky. The shoes did fine but the soles are not thick like hiking boots, so you do feel the rocks. My feet hurt somewhat by the end of the hike. You'll notice the back of the shoe does not have the usual cut out for your ankle. Though it is soft and very flexible, you do actually feel that rubbing on your ankle if you wear them long enough. I would prefer the notch cut out like the rest of my hiking shoes. Love the color and style.I bought these shoes to study abroad in Costa Rica. I was looking for a lightweight shoe that would dry quickly without getting molduy. So far, I love them! I did have to purchase a size smaller than I usually would (I am usually a 9.5 US and had to purchase the 9.) They drain water very well and the few rainstorms we've had here so far they dry faster than my Crocs! Love the Red (Hot pink) color. The only thing I would reccomend is breaking them in for a few days prior to needing to use them as the cushion is a little thick at first and can cause your heel to slide out at first. After about 4 days of hiking and walking I seem to have them broken in so it has stopped happening. Love!Comfortable shoe fits me with thick wool socks. I normally wear 9- 9.5 and I bought 9.5 in these shoes. The width is roomier than the pair of Merrill All Out Charge size 10 that I bought at the same time. Still comfortable and secure for hiking although the heel is not quite as secure as it is in the All Out Charge. I wear these with normal weight socks for normal daily activity where the slightly looser fit is not a problem. When I am going to be hiking a few miles or more, I wear the omni-wool socks with these to make the heel a bit more snug. Plenty of room for the toes with the thick socks. I did not need any break-in time for these shoes to be comfortable.I was super excited to put these on once they arrived but I had to wait. The build up and anticipation did not disappoint. They were extremely comfortable. I went hiking and climbing in Colorado and I now refer to the shoes as my adventure shoes. I do recommend you wear high socks bc it can eat at the back of your ankles which I found out the hard way thankfully while not hiking. But the fit as expected and are comfortable. At the end of the day I'm very glad I got these.I love these shoes and wished I could have kept them. But unfortunately they have a seam on the back of the ankle that was uncomfortable for me (I should state that I am a bit like that princess feeling the pea under a hundred mattresses). Coupled with the fit of the ankle which bends inwards, they rubbed as I tried them in the house. I suspected these issues were likely to lead to blisters, so reluctantly had to send them back. They look great and otherwise fitted perfectly.Great looking shoe and super comfortableMerrell Women's Capra Rapid Hiking Shoe, Black,... Is a nice looking shoe. First canvas/fabric mesh sneaker I have purchased. I usually have a problem with shoes wanting to slip off of the back of my heel. Usually a 7 1/2 is a little too wide for my foot but I still purchase that size because of my long toes. This is a nice fit in width and length but, unless I wear very thick socks I get red marks/tender spots, where there are seams, on the tops of my feet. Otherwise it is a nice breathable shoe that has enough cushion for 8 hours on a concrete floor and good traction.Since I absolutely treasure my other Merrell footwear (Merrell Women's Siren Sport GTX Hiking Shoes), I hoped hat these would be the same. They fit a bit larger than expected. They have a stiffer sole and just generally not as comfortable as my hikers (which I could practically live in with no issues). Merrell is my choice for hikers but not this type of footwear.
