Fist hike with these was 11 miles round trip with an elevation gain of 3000 ft and these were super comfortable. They do run large, I wear a 10.5 in Keen and Merrell but in these a 10 fit. No break in period they were comfortable right out of the box. They may not be supportive enough for heavy backpacking but great for hiking with a small backpack.
