These are a wonderful entry level hiking shoe. I appreciate the space in the shoe. I wear a 6.5 in running shoes and these were a tad bigger than I am used to but necessary if you are truly hiking. Not a lot of arch support.Longest hike has been 17 miles and that would be the threshold for me at this time in these particular shoes.I walked through wet grass this morning and at 2 pm the insides of the shoe are still damp. I didn't even step in any puddles. Expect it to perform as a regular tennis shoe in that department. As for the fit, I love i t. It is extremely difficult for me to find shoes that are even remotely close to being comfortable as I have wide feet, even when i try on wide width shoes. Merrells run small to me in general so I knew to order half a size up and in the wide. They are a little loose on the side, but I prefer it as it is a bit refreshing not to be wearing something that constricts my feet for once. I also ordered these in the mids for the days I'm working in the field or hiking.Needless to say, these are a keeper for me. Just wish that they came in more/better colors and were actually waterproof.I needed hiking shoes to replace old ones w/worn out treads. These were ordered in same size 9 but toe box felt short...pressed down on big toe, not length. I also wasn't crazy about the solid gray look which seemed different than online photo (olive color purchased but looked all solid gray). I returned themThe arch support is great for the normal person, it’s not quite enough for ones like me with Planters Fascitis. There is plenty of room to add my own inserts. The heel is not as solid of a feel compared to my last hiking boots. These are definitely a hiking shoe not low cut boot which is what I will buy next. Quality is all good, just a very lightweight hiking shoe.I was looking for a supportive hikers/sneaker type shoe to wear while working in the yard and woods . I have a plantar fibroma that can really hurt if I'm on my feet for a long time, work hard on slopes etc.. These hikers are amazingly comfortable and supportive ! I loved them so much from working in them I bought a 2nd pair " for non work dress" . best shoe to shop at the mall in ,go all day to yard sales, and yes hike ! love love, love these and the box included the explanation of how Merrell construct their women's shoes to suit a women body mechanics . Without a doubt they have nailed it !I have an extremely weak ankle after a couple of reconstruction surgeries and have spent a long time trying to find a pair of shoes that are comfortable and supportive without success. Finally, I found these shoes and I am walking without pain for the first time in years. I have always worn an 8.5W US so I ordered the same and they’re true to size. I have a high arch and these are very supportive of that. The ankle is cut low so it doesn’t touch my ankle at all but I’m still unable to roll it in or out. There is also ample toe room. The traction on the sole is really good on all surfaces. It’s great to have shoes that don’t fold together, feel supportive and ARE supportive! Stylish design tooWish it were prettier but an excellent shoe. Third of the same style I purchased. Keeping one for when the second gets worn. Excellent support! Can walk long distances without a problem. Not clumsy, can even dance in them.Wear with heavy cotton socks and pre-made orthotic so buy 1/2 size larger.I love Merrill shoes, only shoes I've found that I can put on and go. No breaking in, no pain, awesome!!!Merrell really have lost their way lately in terms of design, moving away from trail/walking shoe styles to more conventional, ugly urban trainers (why???) so I'm snapping up these older looking styles while I can. I wear them 7 days a week as I walk everywhere – they're well made, stupidly comfy and very supportive. It's just a shame that decent styles are becoming harder and harder to find... Be warned, though – I think the sizes have changed a bit too as these feel a bit shorter than the last 7s I bought. As I've got narrow feet, I usually buy Merrell as I've found they tend to be a narrow fit. This is the third pair of Merrell Sirens I've purchased, and while I'm happy with the width, they have come up about half a size too small, and so I've regretfully had to return them. I'm normally a size 7, but my toes were pretty much touching the ends of these. A shame, because they're a nice colour combination, and they did feel nicely cushioned underfoot. I've ordered size seven and a half, which will hopefully be more comfortable.I have many pairs of Merrell shoes, so I bought my normal size 4 which normally fit perfectly, these are on the small side. I find Merrell usually come up big but these are a bit snug. I have not tested them out properly yet, so only time will tellDisappointed with this purchase, not sure they are Gore-Tex finding them dont repel water at all! (not shower/water proof), only vapor well however without keeping your feet warm (cold in winter), hence, they are not suitable for all weather use, also a bit slippery due to the design of the top outer sole. Will NOT recommend them.Had these a while now and they are comfortable however I think the quality it questionable, the sides of the shoes have sort of "fluffed up" and I find I have to use a shoe horn as the back of the trainer tucks under too easily.
