These are extremely comfortable. I’ve had dozens of pairs of Merrill's over the years. The quality can be hit or miss. These are currently my favorite work shoes over my chameleons. I cannot Believe they broke - I just looked down and they were jacked - don’t know how it happened.Long lastingThis boot true to Merrell fits well, is comfortable, I appreciated the extra set of laces, good traction, light weight. I've probably put a couple hundred miles of trail/off trail/snowshoeing use as well as use for yardwork and such. My family doesn't like the aesthetic of the boot - It tries to be a bit retro, but the big grey foam sole contrasts with that look. Also it has a more nubuck look to it as opposed to the smoother look of traditional leather. So while I agree it doesn't look the best, that isn't why I bought it and I don't much care.It is probably just a little lightweight for snowshoeing, I sometimes had to adjust strap tension/position in order to not have it dig into my foot. Also the waterproofing couldn't stand up to that level of moisture exposure, and my feet ended up wet. But the light weight is an important factor for me, and I think getting wet snowshoeing for 10 hours in difficult terrain is inevitable. So still 5 stars.I wanted to love these. Got the black/blue combo that looks fantastic. I liked the grip on them on wet rocks the first time I went out hiking with them. I had been hiking twice a week for a few months with some old Columbia hikers and decided I'd get some new ones since I was really enjoying it. Wore these the first time and loved them, but subsequent hikes started hurting. My heel developed a spot on the back where the achilles attaches on the rear right of the heel that is tender to the touch and that hurts more every time I wear these than when I put them on. I've purchased heel supports to try to help, and they don't.I don't know what these boots did to me but now I can't seem to hike in anything without my left heel hurting. On one hike it was excruciating but I was already a couple miles in and had to hike back out wearing these. It was awful. My fear is that they gave me tendonitis or worse and it will take me a long time of recovery to get beyond it and to build back up to hiking again pain free with some other hikers on. It's really disappointing to spend this much on hiking boots only to have them really hurt me. My right heel hurts some, but not nearly like my left.I felt from the beginning and told my wife that they felt like they fit crooked, like the laces weren't something you'd look down on and they'd be straight like most shoes. Whatever the case, this is my first and last experience with Merrell. I had always heard good things and maybe they're great for others but they weren't for this guy, and I really wanted them to be. Heck, I still do. Maybe just because I don't invest this kind of cash into a pair of hiking boots normally, maybe because they look cool, or maybe just because I'd like to hike without pain again.Well i had a need for a nice durable and overall confortable. I live in a mountainous region of northern california so hiking is just what we do. Just arrived this morning and strapped em on and wore them for the rest of the today. I did apply a good coating of obenaufs boot oil which soaked right in and made the leather a little more workable. But comfortable from the get go. Not a thing bad to say after day 1. Havent even put in a nice insole yet. Will be back to update in a couple weeks and hopefully still be pumped a about having these merrell boots!I just purchased and used these boots for 10 days at Mammoth and Lake Tahoe. Mostly in snow, these boots were great with just a nice pair of moisture wicking, insulated socks. If you don't use decent socks, your feet will likely sweat and then get cold. I also used these walking up creeks, but didn't fully submerge. I used some mink oil to waterproof even further which darkened the color a lot, but they have lightened up over the using them in a variety of conditions. Overall, I highly recommended, especially for the price. This boot was relatively comfortable out of the box - I did get a small blister during the first few days of break-in (but did have a lot of miles (about 20 miles) those first two days).I have worn it for about 2 weeks and put about 80 miles on it in harsh winter weather in West Michigan and Toronto. Grips well and provides good traction on the ice and snow and keeps my feet warm and dry, in 0 degree weather.I have worn it primarily in urban conditions, on icy, snow-covered sidewalks. It should work well in the woods this spring.Overall, seems like a well-priced good value shoe. I typically wear a size 9.5 or 10, and purchased this in a size 10, which fits perfectly. I also bought a size 9.5, which was too small. The return process was seamless on the 9.5.Order a half size up if possibleAfter reading reviews for Merrell Men's Ontario boots I took the plunge and ordered size UK 10.5 as I usually am size 10 UK, anyway my parcel arrived after shipping from Spain , I got a shock on opening my parcel as the sender had sent size 11 UK so I tried them on and to my surprise they fitted perfectly . I have been on a few rambling walks and they are fantastic also they don't slip on frozen frosty ground and footpaths, they keep my feet warm and are so comfy , not fully tested in wet yet so can't comment on waterproof only walked in light snow but seem fine so far.I bought these boots online during the lockdown as the shops were all shut. I have never bought Merrell before so looked online to see what size to get. Unfortunately I should have gone a whole size up rather than only half a size up, so I had to send them back. This was pain as I had to pay for the return which was £11.00, then they did not have my size in stock so I had to get some others in the end. Shame as they are a very nice boot as well. The boots are 5 star, but due to the return cost I give 4 stars.Bought these 8 months ago. No breaking in required. Super comfy from day one unlike old school leather walking boots.I have used these every day over winter to walk the dog over waterlogged muddy fields for hours at a time. I've washed them regularly and plastered them with dubbin to retain waterproofing but now, 8 short months in, they have given up the ghost. The leather has come away from the sole and they let water in both boots.Perhaps a three season boot but I have just replaced them with Meindl Bhutans in the hope those will last longer. Better do for £200.In summary, great looking comfortable boots but don't use them in waterlogged muddy fields everyday during winter months. They wont last long.An 8.5 UK size is normally just right for me length wise, and wasn't disappointed but were a tiny bit narrow on the width. I was going to return them but thought that I wouldn't be able to get another pair of Merrell Ontario's at this amazing price so decided to keep them. I'm glad I did as they have 'broken in' slightly and now fit perfectly. Not sure of the fit yet as they are a Christmas gift but all looks good so far and the service and delivery was prompt.
